In the context of a field study in a supporting company for the automotive industry an
analysis of the reliability of visual quality inspections was performed in the entire
product cycle of wet-painted vehicle parts by introducing manipulated inspection lots.
Here, both the occurring stress and strain levels as well as the corresponding subjec-
tive evaluation of the employees referred to it were considered.
The results showed deficits in the ergonomic design of the quality control
workstations, whose elimination would lead to an increase of the currently low control
reliability. Both, the objective data and the subjective evaluations of the examiners,
indicate to a necessary improvement of the illumination system and the test device.
